The In-Home Alternative:

"I didn't know such an option existed!" That's something that we hear quite often. It's also a good example of how unprepared all of us can be for life events that require help with everyday activities. Here's our perspective on what we do and why it makes such a huge difference in our clients' lives.

Often, we find out about caregiving in the middle of a crisis. When our mother, father or spouse is being released from a hospital stay and we are told that we need to find help for those everyday chores that we previously took for granted.

Or it could be a longer, slower realization that help is needed. An elderly parent may be living at home, and over a period of time, we realize that they can't make it though the day by themselves.

Or your spouse needs help and motivation just to get out of the easy chair and take a walk. And you can't provide the help needed.

Now you are presented with a choice. Your loved one goes to a managed care facility, or, if the situation is right, you can opt for an in-home caregiving program.

Often, the responsibility for caregiving falls to another family member. And those new responsibilities are usually added on top of the ones we already have. Providing caregiving to a loved one has an impact on that relationship. Guilt and stress escalate.

Fortunately, there's help. Using the in-home caregiving alternative, you can restore your relationship and your own sanity. You can specify the amount of caregiving hours, the type of duties performed and the exact budget.

Now the choice is to find the right provider. There are many options. There are small independent companies, larger national franchises and solo practitioners. They all come with advantages and disadvantages, which are essential for you to know about before you make a decision.

It's best to do your homework, and find the solution that is right for you and your loved ones. At Salus, we have built our business as if we were our own customers. We prefer to work with a small company that has the personal touch, but we also are comforted by the knowledge that the company is big enough to provide the proper screening and training of it's caregiver employees. And of course, we want it all at a good value.  Be sure and visit our page that describes more about what to look for in a great caregiving company.

"We just want to express our thanks for the care received. Dolly, Lena and each of the relief staff were exceptional. Appreciated!"
